Punta Mita began life as a fishing village but soon grew into a luxury resort on Mexico’s Pacific coast. Located over a small peninsula on Banderas Bay, it is home to upscale villas, golf courses and private beaches. There is a small public area called "El Anclote", filled with restaurants and a gentle surf. This is the closest point to the offshore, bio-diverse, Marieta Islands, where you may find wildlife such as humpback whales during the whale season and blue-footed boobies all year long. Up north from Punta Mita you can find the laid-back surfer village of Sayulita.
There is a lot of excitement in Punta Mita these days. The Four Seasons resort, owned by Bill Gates and his investments in this spectacular beach town has everyone buzzing. The water here is more Caribbean like and the small town square has interesting shops, places to eat and stands selling beach goodies and local handicrafts. Close enough to Puerto Vallarta if you want the action, far enough if you don’t. Either way you will love this sweet little town and all the amazing people who live and visit here.
